In the civil engineering field, the construction activities contain planning, estimation and execution. Preparation of an estimate is, for arriving the cost of the structure, to verify the available funds, or to procure the required funds, for the completion of the proposed structure.

Estimate: it’s a computation of required quantities of finished items of work and its expenses likely to be incurred for its construction. The main object of estimate is to know the required quantity of material, labour and cost before actual execution. It helps an engineer to plan the construction work, for quick and proper construction with required quality.

Quantity surveying is mainly applied in the field of construction; the quantity surveyor can work as project manager, building contractor or their QS employee, project Management Company, consultant to a government department, bank, insurance, finance company, or tertiary education provider, company manager/director and  can running your own company.
